About the firm
We do one kind of work, and we do it well.
Ashby Family Law is a boutique family law firm in Uptown Charlotte. Family law is what we do — exclusively — and what we have done since the firm opened in 2014.
Origin
Why this firm exists.
Jordan Ashby founded the firm in 2014, after several years at a regional firm where the family law practice was one of many. The motivation was simple: family law is where most people meet the legal system at the worst moment of their lives. It is also a practice area that benefits enormously from focused experience. A firm that does only family law — every day, with deliberate craft — is a different kind of representation than a firm where divorce is a Tuesday and Wednesday is something else.
We started small and have grown thoughtfully. Today the firm is the lead partner, two associates, a paralegal team, and the operational discipline to handle complex matters at the level our clients deserve. We are not the largest family law firm in Charlotte. We are not trying to be. We do one kind of work, and we do it well.
Values
What we believe.
These are not slogans on a wall. They are the things that decide the cases we take, the way we communicate, and the work we are willing to refuse.
Family law only
We do not take general practice cases. Family law is what we do, every day. Specialization is not a marketing claim — it is what we are required to do every morning to keep up with the practice.
Calm beats noise
Most family law matters benefit from deliberation, not aggression. We try the cases that warrant a fight. We resist the noise of the cases that don't.
Honest counsel
We will tell you what we think — including when what we think is that you should not engage us, or that the path you are considering is wrong. The case evaluation is a conversation, not a sales pitch.
Documents matter
Most family law cases are won and lost on documents. We invest in the preparation that produces clean records, defensible classifications, and durable orders. The work is the work.
The space
Uptown Charlotte, eighteenth floor.
Our offices occupy the eighteenth floor of a low-key Uptown building, with conference rooms designed for the conversations our clients need to have — quiet, private, and unhurried.

Community
Where we show up.
We take a meaningful pro bono caseload through Legal Aid of North Carolina, with focus on domestic violence and custody matters where representation makes the difference between a child’s safety and the absence of it.
Our associates serve on local boards (including Safe Alliance, the largest domestic violence shelter in the Charlotte region). The lead partner serves on the North Carolina Bar Association Family Law Section Council and lectures regularly at CLE programs across the state.
We do this work because we are part of the community we practice in. The line between the firm and the community we serve is meant to be porous.
